i'm not sure how true this is, but i got an email saying i've made it to the final in a poetry competition on poetry.com


i cant add it up
you + her + me
when i need the answer to be 2
it keeps equaling 3

but i was never as good at maths
as i was at thinking about you

perhaps i should have majored in dreams
with a minor in fantasy
and a thesis on what could be

instead i sit with pen and paper
a pocket calculator
and work out the equations one more time
